Renzo Piano’s 1981-1983 recovery plan for Genoa’s Molo district represents an early attempt to reconnect the historic centre to the waterfront through participatory methods. Some of the principles expressed in this first proposal were later taken up in a project of certainly greater scope, the one for the 1992 Expo, also highlighting the role played by architect Giancarlo De Carlo in the portion of Genoa Prè assigned to him.
