ADRTrack: Real-Time Hazardous Material Truck Management via V2X Cooperative Messages

This paper introduces ADRTrack, a cutting-edge information system built on the Apache Kafka framework and designed for the real-time management of trucks transporting dangerous goods, specifically those classified under the Accord europeen relatif au transport international des marchandises Dangereuses par Route (ADR). ADRTrack leverages Cooperative Awareness Messages (CAMs) for tracking ADR vehicles and Infrastructure- to- Vehicle Information Messages (IVIMs) for real-time alerts, enhancing road safety by notifying drivers of potential proximity risks. We perform a real-time system evaluation with ADR-equipped trucks, showing the tracking results in a user-friendly dashboard. We also provide simulation results in three highway conditions (open air, tunnel passage, and anomalous vehicle behavior). The ADRTrack solution aims to enhance road situational awareness, improving highway safety and logistics management for hazardous material transport.
