This work presents preliminary research findings from the Italian project Teenagers Experience Empowerment by Numbers (TEEN), funded by the Politecnico di Milano through the Polisocial Award 2017. The project TEEN (www.teen.polimi.it) deals with the phenomenon of young immi-grants, the so-called “teen-immigrants”, and aims at promoting basic math-ematical literacy as another fundamental right that may significantly in-crease the level of autonomy of teen-immigrants resorting to activities that have a mathematics root.
