Abstract

Lack of lung surfactant in preterm newborns leads to respiratory distress, a major cause of death. Non-invasive medical cares are developed, based on real time measurement of flow surfactant instilled in the newborn. We propose a new optical flow sensor based on self-mixing interferometry, and develop a dedicated prototype for measuring surfactant flow rate in a small diameter duct.
