The formation of butanediol by the hydrogenation of butynediol on a ruthenium based catalyst has been studied in a slurry reactor. The reaction was performed in aqueous phase in a stirred autoclave of stainless steel. The influence of reaction parameters, e.g. hydrogen pressure, amount of catalyst and temperature, was determined. The path of formation of some byproducts is also reported.

Abstract
