Oxygen is used for a wide range of applications. Depending on the economic range and the required purity, various methods are used to extract oxygen; for the medium to large production scale, cryogenic air separation is preferred with relatively low energy consumption and high purity, whilst for the small scale, adsorption-based devices are widely used, with higher energy consumption and a lower purity product. A novel process capable of producing pure oxygen via the integration of SOFC and SOEC is evaluated in this paper using gPROMS ModelBuilder. Furthermore, a sensitivity analysis to study the effects of some of the important operating conditions was conducted. With a predicted electrical energy consumption of 0.21-0.34 kWh/ kg O2, this new approach is shown to be a good candidate to compete with the non-cryogenic small scale production technologies in terms of energy consumption, with the additional advantage of producing high purity oxygen.

Abstract
With a predicted electrical energy consumption of 0.21-0.34 kWh/ kg O2, this new approach is shown to be a good candidate to compete with the non-cryogenic small scale production technologies in terms of energy consumption, with the additional advantage of producing high purity oxygen.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
