A description of the characteristic features of the first order Raman spectra of carbon materials containing carbon atoms in sp2 hybridisation state is reported. The interpretation (in term of structural diagnosis) reached through experimental and theoretical investigations on molecular models (Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons) are illustrated.

Abstract
