This paper aims at providing a model that describes variables and levers that are at the basis of IT outsourcing relations. This specific topic have not received sufficient attention, in literature and practice, in the past years. Authors think that it’s extremely important to know what are the different typologies of IT outsourcing models in terms of management and governance. To do that it’s relevant to identify variables that impact the kind of relation, the levers that can be used and the main stages in the evolution of a supplier-customer relation. This study is based on an empirical research involving nine case studies and on a deeper retrospective analysis of three selected cases within this initial sample.
