Self-Consolidating Concrete (SCC) has transformed the way that concrete construction is performed throughout the world. While the constituent materials of concrete is vastly different now than it was 100 or even 10 years ago, the processing and placement of concrete remained relatively the same. The fact that SCC changed the way that concrete is processed places it on the cutting edge of technological and scientific developments. Over the last decade, research, ranging from rheological characterization of SCC cement pastes to developing SCC-pavements, has been conducted at The Center for Advanced Cement-Based Materials (ACBM) on SCC. While SCC may no longer be considered a “new concrete”, there are still significant challenges to overcome before there is a broader of SCC in both cast-in-place and precast industry.
