Abstract
The book presents an overview of the restoration Venice has undergone in the last two hundred years. It is a mistake to think that Venice has been preserved in aspic. A great deal changed after the Fall of the Republic in 1797, and the city has continued to changed and be changed. Quite how much Venice has been altered in the last two hundred years in not realised. The book's title refers to the unique situation of Venice as a city that the world has wanted to preserve almost from the moment it lost its independence, but also to the anomalous category of "extraordinary maintenance" in today's building regulations, an elastic catch-all inviting abuse.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
