Manufacturing companies encounter challenges and transformations, both related to new technological opportunities and business models. In this context, digital servitization emerges as a relevant paradigm. Particularly, Manufacturing-as-a-Service (MaaS) represents an innovative business model through which manufacturers, leveraging digital technologies such as Internet of Things and cloud platforms, can offer scalable and on-demand manufacturing services concurrently improving their environmental sustainability. From a theoretical and practical perspective, MaaS investigation and implementation are still scarce. Overcoming this gap, the paper analyzes the current state-of-the-art of MaaS through a systematic literature review, systemizing the main identified trends. Based on the findings, it develops a maturity model addressed at manufacturing companies deploying MaaS and it validates it through the support of 3 MaaS companies.
