As a final summary of a three-year research collaboration with an optical equipment vendor, SM-Optics, in this document we overview different strategies for minimizing the cost of deployed equipment at OTN and WDM layers in metro-aggregation optical networks. We also propose and evaluate a new approach to solve the problem of minimizing the cost of OTN-layer equipment, and we provide new results on the impact of topology and of the distribution of filterless nodes on optimization approaches that we proposed for the OTN-over-WDM multi-layer design (namely, two-step and three-step approaches). The results show that the three-step cost savings in a mesh network with fewer filterless nodes can be increased by 9%.

Abstract
As a final summary of a three-year research collaboration with an optical equipment vendor, SM-Optics, in this document we overview different strategies for minimizing the cost of deployed equipment at OTN and WDM layers in metro-aggregation optical networks. We also propose and evaluate a new approach to solve the problem of minimizing the cost of OTN-layer equipment, and we provide new results on the impact of topology and of the distribution of filterless nodes on optimization approaches that we proposed for the OTN-over-WDM multi-layer design (namely, two-step and three-step approaches). The results show that the three-step cost savings in a mesh network with fewer filterless nodes can be increased by 9%.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
