This paper shows the preliminary outcomes of an analysis connected with ongoing research projects. The focus is on palaces of medieval origin and modified in the Modern Age, built to represent the civic authorities and their government plans. The palaces of Valchiavenna, Valtellina, Val Seriana and Val di Scalve may be labeled as minor or marginal cases compared to established models; in fact, they fully represent and witness the complex historical transformations of the communities’ spaces and architecture of the Alps.
