To enlighten the role of Milan administrators, the paper focuses on the many fountains built between 1921 and 1941. Starting from the work of Alessandro Minali with Salvatore Saponaro, for the so-called Fontana della Carità e Risparmio, built up in 1928, they will be recalled a dozen of public and private works. Those of public initiative, require a special investigation to point out the role of institutions in the management of Milan’s water, not only as an ornament but a structural service for the modern town.
