The paper tackles the heterogenous aspects of post-industrial processes in Ștei, Romania: the landscape profound transformations as a direct result of raw materials extractions, and the paths toward patrimonial acknowledgement, safeguarding and further enhancement of the built environment of the site. The legacy of industrial processes both in terms of ecological criticalities and built inheritance will be debated, questioning if and how the ‘heritage’ status can be reconciled with the environmental issues.
