The monumental S. Agata in the high city of Bergamo is result of several rewritings. Between the 17th-18th centuries, the former Teatin monastery and church were converted into a prison which lasted till 1977, when the building was designated as public and medical offices. The open space and the church were later dedicated to recreational activities. The rest, the prison, is still off-limits and unexplored. The paper discusses a functional rearrangement which does not elude this complexity.
