An international competition of ideas for the architecture and culture of morainic areas | Un Concorso internazionale di idee per l’architettura e la cultura dei territori morenici

Il testo introduce il tema del Concorso Internazionale MIRC 2021. Il Concorso internazionale di idee MIRC “Morainic Identity Regeneration Competition” è un’iniziativa rivolta ai giovani allievi delle Scuole nazionali e internazionali di Architettura, Design, Ingegneria, Paesaggio e Urbanistica, ideata con lo scopo di avviare nuove riflessioni e proposte sulla valorizzazione degli spazi collettivi dei centri storici di quattro comuni veronesi – Castelnuovo del Garda, Sommacampagna, Sona e Valeggio sul Mincio – e dei percorsi naturalistici che si diramano nei territori delle Colline Moreniche del Garda. Questo progetto culturale è stato realizzato dal Polo Territoriale di Mantova del Politecnico di Milano e dalle Amministrazioni dei comuni coinvolti, in collaborazione dell’Istituto Commercio Servizi di Vicenza, nell’ambito delle iniziative di Mantovarchitettura 2021 e con il patrocinio della Regione Veneto. L’iniziativa ha consentito di raccogliere nuove idee per la riqualificazione architettonica e paesaggistica dei territori morenici, orientate alla conservazione della memoria e dei caratteri identitari incisi in questi luoghi, a valorizzarne il patrimonio storico e naturalistico, e ad accrescere la consapevolezza del loro valore fisico e culturale.

The text introduces the theme of the MIRC 2021 International Competition. The MIRC international competition of ideas “Morainic Identity Regeneration Competition” is an initiative aimed at young students from national and international schools of Architecture, Design, Engineering, Landscape and Urban Planning, conceived with the aim of initiating new reflections and proposals on the improvement of the collective spaces of the historic centres of four Verona municipalities – Castelnuovo del Garda, Sommacampagna, Sona and Valeggio sul Mincio – and nature trails that branch off into the areas of the Morainic Hills of Garda. This cultural project was carried out by the Mantua Campus of the Politecnico di Milano and by the Administrations of the municipalities involved, in collaboration with the Istituto Commercio Servizi of Vicenza, within the framework of the Mantovarchitettura 2021 initiatives and with the patronage of the Veneto Region. The initiative made it possible to gather new ideas for the architectural and landscape redevelopment of morainic areas, oriented towards the preservation of memory and the identity features engraved in these places, to enhance their historical and naturalistic heritage, and to increase awareness of their physical and cultural value.
