This Special Issue contains a collection of outstanding papers covering several recent advances in the design and management of reliable communication networks. Papers are organized into five categories: resilience in network functions virtualization based networks, application-aware solutions for network resilience, resilience of transport networks, secure and reliable communications, wireless and radio-access network resilience. In this editorial, a brief overview of the field is given, followed by a summary of the twenty nine papers, accepted for publication in this special issue.

Abstract
