Il sistema difensivo di Verona: le mura, i forti e le campagne. Proposte per la tutela e valorizzazione di un sistema di paesaggio.

Verona represents the concept of the fortified town at several seminal stages of European history. The defensive system is investigated in its elements: walls, external forts, open spaces and landscape contexts. With an analysis of the fortifications as a landscape system, the common historical reading focused on the urban walls is overcome and attention is paid to how the military strategy combined with the knowledge of the morphology of the territory led to the design of military works both in the built parts, walls and forts, and in the "empty" ones, valleys and stands, and how they have conditioned the entire Veronese landscape with regulations. The text proposes a strategy for the conservation of the landscape of the fortress highlighting: problems of military architecture, relationship with the urban fabric, identifies actions necessary to preserve them and highlight their role as a landscape system applied to the entire defensive system, not only to the UNESCO perimeter areas.
