This chapter focuses on the most relevant Operations Improvement methodologies, such as Just in Time, Lean Production/Lean Thinking, Six Sigma, Operations Excellence approaches, etc. Albeit different in terms of overarching approach and specific tools adopted, these methodologies and initiatives have in common the fact that they aim at improving performance by acting on the “structure” of the production system (and virtually always pursuing an attempt to simplify and rationalize production and logistics flows).
