The development of product lines/families is becoming a critical issue which software production organizations need to address to be competitive on the market. From a process perspective, however, there is no need to modify the process technology that is currently offered. Instead, there is a need to provide guidelines for the definition of software processes specifically oriented to supporting product line/family development. The real issues are to define the appropriate organizational context, to emphasize the role of the architectural design phase, and to carefully define suitable configuration management policies.

Abstract
The development of product lines/families is becoming a critical issue which software production organizations need to address to be competitive on the market. From a process perspective, however, there is no need to modify the process technology that is currently offered. Instead, there is a need to provide guidelines for the definition of software processes specifically oriented to supporting product line/family development. The real issues are to define the appropriate organizational context, to emphasize the role of the architectural design phase, and to carefully define suitable configuration management policies.File in questo prodotto:
