The rediscovery of an unpublished painting by Gaspare Diziani in a very popular place in Florence allows to raise some questions on the stylistic development of the painter's early maturity, still influenced in this work by his master Sebastiano Ricci. From an iconographic point of view, the present study focuses on the painter’s careful reading of the Biblical text, which led him to the creation of an image that is both accurate and critically innovative.
