Interno | Esterno: lo spazio soglia come nuovo luogo della domesticità

The paper grows out of consideration of the transformation of domestic space in relation to the practices and behaviors of the contemporary inhabitant. The nomadic culture and the mobility that characterize the current period defined a different use of the space. A permeable space, able to change continuously through the passage of people which establish relationships with the surrounding environment that are always different. The essay aims to define, through the analysis of some meaningful case studies related to the domestic sphere, the nature of this particular space, which we call “threshold” where connections, that are created between the people are reflected in the fluidity and loss of precise physical boundaries between inside and outside. The threshold, that we define in this short essay, becomes a zone, not only a place of passage, but a space of exchange and encounter between interior and exterior, that has an intrinsic idea of space.
