L'incontro tra architettura e arte: Luigi Caccia Dominioni e Francesco Somaini

The collaboration between the architect Luigi Caccia Dominioni (1913-2016) and the artist Francesco Somaini (1926-2005) began in the mid-Fifties. They met in 1955 on the occasion of a work entrusted to the architect by the Somaini family. From that occasion a close collaboration was born between the two masters characterized by the sharing of a meticulous artistic research. The floor mosaics designed by Somaini, as well as the numerous sculptural works, find their place within Caccia Dominioni’s projects in a harmonious and complementary way. The motifs designed by Somaini for spaces and paths are characterized by curved and sinuous lines, full of tension and dynamism, which enrich the organic and “human” layouts designed by the architect. Between Somaini and Caccia Dominioni works there is an almost symbiotic relationship: the sculptor works on the basis of the architect’s drawings and the architect makes the sculptor’s work an integral part of the architectural space.
