The goal of this contribution is to reflect on an issue relating to teaching in the training field, which in the university school has become increasingly complex and intricate in the last twenty years. In the past, the clarity of intent, the aims between didactic and research issues were intertwined and less subject to economic and accessibility treatment. In fact, future developments should take into account the experience and contribution of the recent past in which the main and authoritative figures of the school, for example the IUAV, such as Samonà, and Gardella, to continue with their direct assistants trained within the ‘urban architecture thought unit; they later demonstrated the continuity of teaching and professional commitment both in architecture and in urban planning, proof of a “school model” that once distinguished the merit and pride of knowledge and research.
