Abstract
The impact of the pandemic on the contemporary landscape has seen, on the one hand, the whole world overwhelmed by a dramatic emergency, and on the other creative visions are taking shape in response to the crisis. Fashion too, seeks to understand and explore changes as they are happening, offering solutions by exploring new areas, contexts, technologies and materials. During World War II for instance, due to the scarcity of materials such as leather and rubber, Salvatore Ferragamo had to resort to using multi-coloured suede, wood, cork and raffia for the rainbow wedges worn by Judy Garland. Lightweight and extremely comfortable, they became a much more effective alternative – both in terms of wearability and aesthetics – to the materials used in footwear up to that point.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
