Mixing, building, and feeding: mathematics and technology in ancient Egypt

The number of surviving mathematical sources from ancient Egypt is relatively small, but they all give a consistent picture of mathematics as deeply intertwined with a variety of practical activities. Mathematics, after all, is a constant presence in the daily life of any population, even if in different forms or contexts. Beside the presence of geometrical patterns in decorative or functional objects, counting and measuring are naturally embedded in a large number of activities belonging to various fields, including technology.
