This paper presents and analyses Flood-IMPAT, a new procedure for the assessment and mapping of flood risk at the meso-scale, developed with the main objective of supporting the implementation of the European “Floods Directive”. In particular, the paper investigates two of the problems that arose after a first implementation of the procedure in north of Italy: (i) the need of better understanding the influence of land use data on final risk assessment and (i) the importance of a proper description of people vulnerability. The analysis is supported by the implementation of the procedure in a case study.

Abstract
This paper presents and analyses Flood-IMPAT, a new procedure for the assessment and mapping of flood risk at the meso-scale, developed with the main objective of supporting the implementation of the European “Floods Directive”. In particular, the paper investigates two of the problems that arose after a first implementation of the procedure in north of Italy: (i) the need of better understanding the influence of land use data on final risk assessment and (i) the importance of a proper description of people vulnerability. The analysis is supported by the implementation of the procedure in a case study.File in questo prodotto:
