Colored c-Si PV cells or modules will allow a wider spread of Building Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) both on traditional roofs and on building facades. A few commercial products range from mono or multi crystalline colored PV cells to colored front protecting glasses. This paper presents the state of the art of some laboratory structures, their economical motivations and the results related to performances simulation. A general purpose simulation program developed at DEIB (Dipartimento di Elettronica, Informazione e Bioingegneria of Politecnico di Milano) allows the comparison of the power and color performances of the investigated structures. Three new structures have been simulated to improve the performances with no or very limited cost increase. In particular, we focused on tile-red cells, because of their high interest for PV roofing in the Mediterranean regions. For this reason, we propose a few samples deposited at the Nano Technology Laboratory (PoliFAB) of Politecnico di Milano.
