Social housing for the regeneration of built environment

taly has currently a very interesting legal framework with respect to the social housing subject, which may support the testing of new forms of public-private partnerships, with the dual goal to answer to the growing demand for social housing and to enhance the existing underexploited building stock. These are projects falling under the ethical finance scope and including the sustainable offer for housing and related services aimed at those who cannot meet their housing needs in the standard market. With the crisis of the welfare in Italy social housing is now the only means of providing answer to housing demand and rebuilding housing stock underused or abandoned. The study shows how only a complex leverage system, the establishment of real estate funds and an integrated public-private cooperation, are able to provide the resources needed for the regeneration of housing stock owned by local authorities and foundations to be allocated to social housing (sh).
