Seismic action to be considered for structural design is expressed in seismic design codes by means of a response spectrum based on seismic hazard maps and on local site characteristics. The Italian design code offers a simplified procedure to account for amplification effects from site conditions, including stratigraphy and topographic irregularities. A more accurate determination of the local spectrum may be indicated in many situations, as the seismic checking of existing buildings listed as cultural heritage, hosting contents of particular value, or significant because of their public use. Three case studies relevant to cultural heritage buildings presenting different site conditions have been developed with the aim at comparing results from the simplified procedure and from a complete geophysical analysis.

Abstract
Seismic action to be considered for structural design is expressed in seismic design codes by means of a response spectrum based on seismic hazard maps and on local site characteristics. The Italian design code offers a simplified procedure to account for amplification effects from site conditions, including stratigraphy and topographic irregularities. A more accurate determination of the local spectrum may be indicated in many situations, as the seismic checking of existing buildings listed as cultural heritage, hosting contents of particular value, or significant because of their public use. Three case studies relevant to cultural heritage buildings presenting different site conditions have been developed with the aim at comparing results from the simplified procedure and from a complete geophysical analysis.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
