From more than ten years in Italy, the preventive and planned conservation of built cultural heritage has developed important theoretical advancement and more recently has been recognized and confirmed by the legislative framework related to cultural heritage and public works. However there are still some difficulties to manage in the long-term the conservation activities. In addition to the complexity to provide evident economic benefits, this strategy often collides with an unclear definition of roles and responsibilities of different professionals involved in the planning and execution of conservation plans (customers, companies, technicians). Starting from the examination of some conservation plans developed for historic architectural heritage (both of public and private ownership), the paper aims to reflect on possible virtuous scenarios for design and execution in the long term process of inspections, preventive activities and maintenances. In particular, the contribution will study the proposals and the potential costs related that would help to improve the actual socio-economic scenario with the offer of innovative skills.
