The article analyzes the architectural structure of Sempione Park, the most important historic garden in Milan, appears as a romantic English style park, fruit of landscape design as backdrop to the monuments and collective buildings located there. Instead, if it is analyzed with the tools of geometry, it is clear that is the result of tension between two opposing ideas of urban space organization. So, the survey shows the trails of many projects, produced but not realized, and that architectural debate that swept the fate of this area between the eighteenth and the nineteenth century.

L'articolo descrive la struttura Parco Sempione, il giardino storico pubblico più importante di Milano, appare come un parco romantico all’inglese, frutto di un disegno paesistico per far da cornice ai monumenti ed edifici collettivi ubicativi. Se indagato attraverso gli strumenti dell’analisi grafica, esso risulta invece frutto della tensione fra due opposte idee di organizzazione dello spazio urbano e mostra le tracce dei numerosi progetti redatti ma non realizzati e del relativo dibattito architettonico che investì il destino di quest’area tra il XVIII ed il XIX secolo.
