In this paper we discuss the opportunities offered by software packages dedicated to symbolic computations to the teaching of Mathematics in primary and secondary schools. After a brief introduction on mathematical education, we provide a description of the main characteristics of Mathematica relevant to this subject, we formulate a teaching strategy and introduce three applets as examples.
