Iconology as a matter of design between information visualization and artistic approach

The humanistic disciplines here are represented by the historical and critical competences, whereas design brings its own specific visual tools and methods to make complex phenomena visible, accessible and usable (Ciuccarelli, Ricci, 2009). Some topics emerge: the information and knowledge visualization help in coping with the complexity of the relationships between forms, symbols and meanings in the iconological field; the art history and criticism can take advantage of the design approach and of visualization methods and techniques; the focus on the possible paradigms of relationship that represent the synergy of the competences.
