Scientific frame of the paper is environmental sustainability in construction particularly related to reduction of construction and demolition (C&D) waste and reduction of need for virgin resources. The aims of the paper is to investigate reuse as environmentally compatible end of life cycle scenario of buildings??? components and consumer products. The environmental impacts of the life cycle (manufacturing, installation, service life) of a temporary pavilion built with ???new materials??? and these of the same building built with reused materials have been compared. The results show the feasibility of the recovery of architectural components and highlight that reuse entails a 40% reduction in certain impact categories, demonstrating the possibility to merge design creativity with less environmental pressure.

Abstract
Scientific frame of the paper is environmental sustainability in construction particularly related to reduction of construction and demolition (C&D) waste and reduction of need for virgin resources. The aims of the paper is to investigate reuse as environmentally compatible end of life cycle scenario of buildings??? components and consumer products. The environmental impacts of the life cycle (manufacturing, installation, service life) of a temporary pavilion built with ???new materials??? and these of the same building built with reused materials have been compared. The results show the feasibility of the recovery of architectural components and highlight that reuse entails a 40% reduction in certain impact categories, demonstrating the possibility to merge design creativity with less environmental pressure.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
