Communication Design for Urban Environment: the Observatory

The research Communication Design for urban environment. The Design Observatory has two main aims: to identify the field of communication for urban environment by the gathering, analysis and mapping of research and project contributions; to define, through the previous analysis, a research and design tool specific for this research area: the Observatory. Observatory, as a systematic and upgradeable on-line tool to support innovative design, will allow consulting different urban communication projects and identifying their main proprieties. So, it has as main goal to support the design of communication devices and to share the knowledge regarding this specific research area. The gathering, mapping and cataloguing of the projects collected in the Observatory show a strong transformation both in the communication forms and media. This current transformation in the expressive modalities and technologies of communication devices presents an evident change both in modalities of contents production and their transmission. New media and languages led to experimentation both in the most technological and artistic fields, involving different disciplines including Communication Design.
