The wealth of documentation stored in the Archives Piero Bottoni (1903-1977) of Politecnico di Milano, even almost completely unpublished, enhances the role of freehand drawing and travel notes in the architectural education of a master of the architecture of the Twentieth Century. There are many possible interpretations of the material keys with reference to its content: cultural, and theoretical foundations of the project, the subjects with their themes and contents, more personal, and also to the techniques and graphic style. In their whole the travel sketches of early studies disclose a surprising true portrait of the architect that he would have became.
