We have studied the effect of different steel microstructures on hydrogen permeation of two steel pipelines: API 5L X65 and ASTM A182 F22, by thermal treatment of the materials in as-received condition in order to obtain Martensitic and Ferritic – Pearlitic steel microstructures. Hydrogen diffusion coefficient was measured using three different methods: 1) apparent diffusivity, 2) partial diffusivity, and 3) desorption technique. The least diffusion coefficient was obtained in Martensitic steel microstructure while the fast diffusion was observed in Ferritic-Pearlitic steel.
