According to the Guide to the Expression of Uncertainty in Measurement, all significant systematic effects must be identified and compensated. Though this is the best practice in high-accuracy and high-precision measurements, it might become utterly expensive in industrial applications, where cost is an issue and uncompensated systematic effects can be tolerated, provided that their contribution to uncertainty does not lead its value to exceed the pre-defined target uncertainty. For this reason, the contributions to uncertainty given by uncompensated systematic effects and the way they propagate throughout the measurement process have to be evaluated. This paper proposes an application of the Random-Fuzzy Variable method, and considers a simple experimental case to prove its effectiveness.

Abstract
According to the Guide to the Expression of Uncertainty in Measurement, all significant systematic effects must be identified and compensated. Though this is the best practice in high-accuracy and high-precision measurements, it might become utterly expensive in industrial applications, where cost is an issue and uncompensated systematic effects can be tolerated, provided that their contribution to uncertainty does not lead its value to exceed the pre-defined target uncertainty. For this reason, the contributions to uncertainty given by uncompensated systematic effects and the way they propagate throughout the measurement process have to be evaluated. This paper proposes an application of the Random-Fuzzy Variable method, and considers a simple experimental case to prove its effectiveness.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
