Numerical simulations are nowadays used as predictive and interpretative tools in many clinical fields related to cardiovascular diseases including aortic arch pathologies. In this chapter, the biomechanics of the femoro-popliteal artery is briefly described also when a stent is implanted. As stent fracture is one of the major factors compromising implanted stent patency this chapter will focus on the mechanisms of damage thanks to in silicon models able to replicate experimental tests and to detect the most prone areas of fracture.

Abstract
Numerical simulations are nowadays used as predictive and interpretative tools in many clinical fields related to cardiovascular diseases including aortic arch pathologies. In this chapter, the biomechanics of the femoro-popliteal artery is briefly described also when a stent is implanted. As stent fracture is one of the major factors compromising implanted stent patency this chapter will focus on the mechanisms of damage thanks to in silicon models able to replicate experimental tests and to detect the most prone areas of fracture.File in questo prodotto:
