It is known that the haptic feedback when interacting with a consumer product affects the perceived quality of the product itself. This feedback concurs to influence the purchase decision together with other aspects such as the aesthetic quality and the sound feedback. The current practice when designing new products is to test the overall perceptual feedback when prototypes sufficiently detailed are available. This usually happens in a stage of the product development process when is too late to perform changes without increasing significantly the costs of the product. The paper describes an attempt to use haptic technologies in a multisensory Virtual Reality interaction environment, including also sound and visualization technologies, to allow designers to test the interaction aspects of their products through Virtual Prototypes.
