The high flow capacity of rotary control valves, increases the probability of noise generation in the plant. This paper deals with the experimental analysis of the aerodynamic noise in a rotary control valve. The experimental tests have been performed, according with the International Standards, using a steel pipes feed by an air compression system. The characterization of the noise intensity, vibration and sound pressure has been measured by mean a PCB accelerometer and a sound level meter. Noise measurements were performed closing the test section in an anechoic chamber, expressly designed for this type of investigation. The first results of this analysis allowed the solution of a specific problem of noise generation on a real case and gave significant information on the parameters that affect the aerodynamic noise generation in this type of valves.
