Il saggio ripercorre le tappe storiche fondamentali del Tesoro del Duomo di Monza e della Corona Ferra durante la seconda guerra mondiale e l’impegno profuso da numerosi esponenti della Chiesa Cattolica per preservare le insigni reliquie, capolavori dell’arte orafa barbarica e medievale, dalla distruzione e dal pericolo di furti e saccheggi da parte dei tedeschi. Il testo ricostruisce, in particolar modo, l’intervento del cardinal Ildefonso Schuster che prese in carico parte del Tesoro nel 1940 per trasportarlo, più o meno clandestinamente, presso la Città del Vaticano, insieme ad altre importanti manufatti artistici della Diocesi milanese. Il saggio accenna anche alla creazione di una rete segreta di rifugi organizzati dalla sovrintendenza lombarda per far rapidamente espatriare numerose opere d’arte in Svizzera, in caso di estrema necessità. Attraverso un’attenta analisi dei documenti archivistici del Fondo Pacchioni, il testo affronta anche il tema dello spazio espositivo del Tesoro negli anni trenta e quaranta. The Corona Ferrea and the Treasure of the Monza’s Dome during the II World War in Guglielmo Pacchioni’s private documents The article traces the history of the Monza Dome’s Treasure and of the Corona Ferrea during the II World War and it narrates the history of the involvement of many exponents of the Catholic Church to preserve the important relics – masterpieces of the barbaric and medieval goldsmith’s art – from the danger of destruction and theft by the Germans. The paper focuses on the intervention of the cardinal Ildefonso Schuster that secretly carried many important artifacts of the Milan diocese to the Vatican City. Th e author also refers about the creation of a secret network of shelters organized by the Lombard superintendence to quickly expatriate many artworks in Switzerland. Thanks to a further investigation of the archive’s documents of the Fondo Pacchioni, the article treats the theme of the exhibition space of the Treasure in the thirties and forties.
