Structural Survey of a Chimney between XIX and XX Century

Historical evolution) alle pp. 202-204: The assessment of a 110 years old masonry chimney has been carried out through a multidisciplinary approach. The construction appertains to one of the most complete and better preserved example of workers and manufacturing settlement in southern Europe, and belongs to the Unesco World Heritage. The chimney, approximately 65 m high, is affected by a curvature of its upper part and shows a crack pattern characterized by vertical, horizontal and diagonal fissures. Aimed to its safety evaluation, a historical investigation has been carried out together with a geometrical survey through a laser scanner, a measurement of the out-of-plumb, the inspection of the crack pattern along the whole height and a numerical modelling.
