Color design is based on the interaction of three items—form, light and color—a wellknown formula that allows for color interaction within a space through the design of the experiential-phenomenological relationship where experience shapes the space and creates visual interfaces based on chromatic values and formal dissonances. The design of architectural space can alternatively be based on space-related “landscapes,” less entrenched but also linked to the rapid transformation of emotional pictures. Color studies at the Bauhaus helped lay down a set of principles through the exercise of “educational workouts” and the pursuit of “sign, shape and color” as key design elements—where color is understood as an expressive medium to fill thespatial vacuum left by abandoning painting as a “separate and imaginary expression” and using “fields of color” to express relations in buildings, because “without color these relations are not living and not actually visible.”
