The heterogeneous reactions of the char residue from coal pyrolysis are the rate determining step of the coal combustion process. The char reactivity depends not only on the porosity and surface area, but also on the elemental composition. Morphology properties and elemental composition at their turn depend on both the rank coal and the operating conditions of pyrolysis. The aim of this study is the characterization of the elemental composition of the char residue through a detailed model of coal volatilization. The model predictions were compared with the information of the elemental char composition available in literature. The overall agreement with experimental data is satisfactory.

Abstract
The heterogeneous reactions of the char residue from coal pyrolysis are the rate determining step of the coal combustion process. The char reactivity depends not only on the porosity and surface area, but also on the elemental composition. Morphology properties and elemental composition at their turn depend on both the rank coal and the operating conditions of pyrolysis. The aim of this study is the characterization of the elemental composition of the char residue through a detailed model of coal volatilization. The model predictions were compared with the information of the elemental char composition available in literature. The overall agreement with experimental data is satisfactory.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
