Abstract

Numerical simulations of a mixed-mode crack-propagation process in a two-dimensional dam buttress have been carried out on the basis of the cohesive-softening crack model and some variants thereof, using various boundary element and finite element procedures. The simulation techniques considered are comparatively described both from the methodological and the computational viewpoint. Numerical results are critically compared to available experimental data.
