Two kinds of quasi-static nonlinear BE analyses are considered: elastic-plastic solids with softening behaviour described by the constitutive law; elastic bodies with cohesive-softening cracks on the boundary or on interfaces. Some consequences of local softening behaviour are pointed out and illustrated by numerical tests.
