From Alexandria’s Library to Alexandria’s Digital LibraryThe long way toward global repository

On the occasion of the WWW7 conference held in Brisbane (Australia) two years ago, a very interesting “Culture Track” was scheduled and several interesting themes were discussed within an extended group of those in the know. Such a successful session catalysed the interests of interested parties, later on in 1999 in Toronto (Canada) on the occasion of WWW8 was launched the idea of a new edition of “Culture Track” to be organised on the occasion of the next WWW. The World Wide Web conference for the year 2000 was foreseen to be hosted in Amsterdam (Netherlands period) in the centre of the “old continent” at the same time of the “Golden Age” exhibition hosted by the State Museum. The occasion of the WWW9 “Culture Track” offered a comprehensive scenario on emerging technologies and trends in the field of “networked arts”.
